I recently moved from Los Angeles to the Boston area, and the dreadful search of a new piano tuner/technician started. For me, finding the right person for the job has always been a difficult task. I’m really picky about how I want my piano to sound and I have been disappointed by the “best”. From the Hollywood go-to guys to New York’s Steinway Hall piano technicians. There is a certain balance between all the elements of the piano that makes it sing the way it was intended to and more. There is an art to it, and it takes a certain kind of talent. Eric is one of those rare talent, and artisan. In my day to day job, I get to write and record music that is extremely varied stylistically and it is very demanding on my beautiful yamaha C3. I need a certain versatility that sometimes goes beyond what the manufacturer intended. The first time I met Eric, none of my horror stories from piano technicians past and none of my absurd tonal demands seemed to phase him. After one tuning, I knew the search was over. The piano could sing in any style, from the most nuanced of Chopin’s Nocturne to the most aggressive pop/rock song. But most importantly, he was able to tell me how my piano was doing. My C3 isn’t brand new, it is over 35 years old (I’m not the first owner) and it needed more than just TLC to obtain what I was looking to get out of it. Eric pointed out that the hammers should be replaced and that would take care of the biggest issues I was dealing with when playing (poor dynamics, mechanic and tonal irregularities throughout the keyboard, and more). It is a really big and delicate job that require a deep all around knowledge of the piano and it’s inner workings. I decided to take the plunge and trust him to do it. The results could not have be more satisfying. His patience and expertise during every step of the way show that this isn’t just a job, but a passion. And after the last voicing session, the sound I was able to get out of my piano was beyond my wildest hopes and expectations. The tone of the piano is absolutely perfect. Each notes sings and resonate in such a pure and beautiful way, and the control over each nuance and dynamic is extremely precise. The piano feels brand new while retaining what originality made me fall in love with it. I can’t see anyone else taking care of my piano at this point. If you are looking for someone serious with very affordable rates, an honest detail-oriented approach, a very friendly service and the attention your piano truly deserves, look no further.

He performed a full action regulation and revoicing on my Schimmel grand piano, including filing down the hammers and correcting a challenging action geometry issue. His persistence, high standards and technical skill paid off; I’m very pleased with the dramatic improvements in tone and touch. He also tuned it, with excellent results. Eric is the best piano tuner who has ever touched our beloved Steinway M model. He pointed out things to us no other tuner ever noticed or commented upon.
